AQUINO-CANCHARI, Christian Renzo; QUISPE-ARRIETA, Rocío del Carmen  y  VILLANUEVA-ZUNIGA, Luis Máximo. COVID-19 in pediatric oncological patients. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2020, vol.92, suppl.1, e1191.  Epub 30-Nov-2020. ISSN 0034-7531.

Introduction:

COVID-19 affects all kinds of people, however it affects way more to people with comorbidities, and one of those is pediatric cancer.

Objective:

To assess the current evidence on the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric oncology patients infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Methods:

It was carried out a bibliographic review from a total of 39 bibliographic references. There were used scientific articles in English and Spanish, in digital format that were available in Pubmed, Scopus, and Medline databases, and in the Google Scholar search engine; in addition, there were explored national and international web pages and the official ones of health ministries, the WHO, and Infomed. It was analyzed the quality, reliability and validity of the articles selected to perform a proper review.

Results:

In pediatric oncology patients, it was confirmed the increase of infection risk and of to develop severe stages of the the infection by SARS-CoV-2. There is no consensus related with the treatment of COVID-19 in patients with neoplasias.

Final considerations:

Pediatric oncology patients are more sensitive to the infection by SARS-CoV-2. In the case of being under their oncological treatment, the patients must continue with it. It is recommended to reinforce the studies and preventive measures in the pediatric oncological population.
