PELAEZ MENDOZA, Jorge; SARMIENTO BARCELO, José A.; DE LA OSA CORNESA, Ricardo  e  ZAMBRANO CARDENAS, Andrés. Cesarean section in the adolescent: maternal and perinatal morbidity. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 1996, vol.22, n.1. ISSN 0138-600X.

A prospective, case-control study is carried out with the aim of knowing the maternal and perinatal morbidity due to cesarean section in pregnant adolescents, at the "10 de Octubre" Maternal-Infantile Hospital, at City of Havana, during 1992. A study group of adolescents who underwent cesarean section (n=105) was compared with a control group integrated by the rest of the pregnant women who went cesarean section (n=953). This information was collected from the case histories and the acts of the Cesarean Section Comittee; the (z) statistician was used to compare the sampler means. In the adolescents with cesarean section, a trend was confirmed as to he decerase of births and lower rate of cesarean section, as well as an incrase of nulliparity with significant differences (p < 0.01). The events related to maternal and perinatal morbidity maintained an increased incidence in this group, in which higher rates of low weight and neonatal asphyxia were also observed. Conclusions relative to these facts are issued, and the extension of thi study to the rest of the maternities of City of Havana, is suggested.
