The results of a descriptive prospective study conducted at the "Julio Alfonso Medina" Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital of Matanzas during l997 are presented. All those cases among whom the reduction of amniotic liquid was corroborated or detected by ultrasonographic study and confirmed by the technique of the 4 quadrants and their comparison according to the gestational time were included. A database was organized and data were processed in an IBM computer by the MICROSTAD system. Doble channel percentage, X2, and finding of means were applied. The sample was composed of 69 patients classified as follows: 3l (55.l %) with severe oligohydramnios and 38 with moderate oligohydramnios (44.9 %). Some of the variables studied allowed to show that hypertension, asthma, prolonged pregnancy and fetal growth retardation are more related to severe oligohydramnios and that it influenced on eutocia. It was found that the weight of the products and the low apgar score had no statistical significance, but that they influenced on 5 late fetal deaths. There was no predominance of meconium fluid.
