A linear prospective and descriptive study of a sample of 135 female patients admitted to our hospital and diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease was conducted. Onehundred and four of these patients were applied transabdominal ultrasonograpy. Variables such as type of image, IUD presence, blood sedimentation speed and type of pelvic inflammatory disease were studied. According to the images, the different variables were correlated. The most frequent type of image was the complex image in one of the adnexa, which was more prevailing in patients with inserted IUD. Blood sedimentation speed was accelerated. The complex images in one or both adnexa was always present in tumoral pelvic inflammatory disease.
