A retrospective descriptive study of the chronological performance of infant and late fetal mortality in Manzanillo municipality from 1987 to 1998 was performed. The universe of study was all late fetal and infant deaths during these 12 years. Data were collected from the Statistical Department of the Municipal Health Division and processed by using late fetal and infant mortality rates, regression and determination coefficients. The results revealed that late fetal mortality rate did not decrease significantly with the time, which is an indicator to be paid more attention at municipal level whereas infant mortality behaved differently. It is concluded that the reduction of the studied rates with the time was only particularly relevant in the case of infant mortality rate.
