Resumen

HERNANDEZ CABRERA, Jesús et al. Perinatal results of breech delivery during 1998. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.2, pp.129-134. ISSN 0138-600X.

The perinatal results of a prospective study conducted with all the breech deliveries ocurred after the 28th week of gestation and with a weight over 1 000 g at “Julio Alfonso Medina” Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital, in Matanzas, during 1998, were explained. Variables showing their influence on the indicators of morbidity and perinatal mortality were also studied. Primary data were registered and processed later in an IBM computer at the University of Matanzas. The MICROSTAT system was used to find the percentage, arithmetical means and the x2 test. It was proved that of the 3 707 deliveries, 179 (4.8 %) were breech deliveries, 187 (48.6 %) were transpelvic deliveries, and 92 (51.3 %) were caesarean sections. The index of caesarean sections with breech presentation was 16.1 %. The caesarean section was high in the preterm and low weight births. The meconium had no statistical relation and the breech deliveries affected the perinatal morbidity and mortality indicators, such as low Apgar score at 5 min., the indicators of low birth weight and of primitive caesarean sections and the late fetal component.

Palabras clave : BREECH PRESENTATION; LABOR PRESENTATION; APGAR SCORE; PERINATAL MORTALITY (PUBLIC HEALTH); INFANT, LOW BIRTH WEIGHT; CAESAREAN SECTION.
