VAZQUEZ MARQUEZ, Ángela et al. Pregnancy and adolescence: the most frequent maternal and perinatal biological factors . Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.2, pp.158-164. ISSN 0138-600X.

A case-control study of 2 055 mothers under 20 years, that gave birth at “Carlos Manuel de Céspedes” Provincial Teaching Hospital of Bayamo, Granma Province, from January 1st, 1993, to December 31st, 1997, was conducted. Comparisons were made with the same number of mothers aged 20-30. Different variables were studied and among the adolescents it was found, within the obstetric history, a predominance of low weight that was higher in this group, as well as a more deficient nutrition, threatened preterm delivery and gravidic hypertensive disease during pregnancy. There were also distocic deliveries, with 35.7 % of cesarean sections, whose first causes were the cephalopelvic disproportion, the acute fetal suffering and the failed induction. The most frequent neonatal complications found were low birth weight, transitory distress and hypoxia. The highest puerperal morbidity was observed in the mothers and the late fetal and early neonatal mortality rates increased in this group.
