MARTINEZ GONZALEZ, Luis Raúl y VALLADARES HERNANDEZ, Marta. Cervix incompetence diagnosed by ultrasound in the prevention of preterm birth. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2002, vol.28, n.1, pp.18-23. ISSN 0138-600X.
A study of the cervix was conducted between the l6th and 28th week of pregnancy among 40 patients with risk antecedents, without risk antecedents and others with symptomatology of pain and contractions. Modifications of the cervix with ultrasonographic criteria of cervix insufficiency (62.3 %) were detected in the 3 studied groups. According to the case, cervix cerclage was performed or the patient received medical treatment. The pregnancy evolution was analyzed to evaluate the obstetric conduct and the time of duration of pregnancy, according to the alterations found in the ultrasound, where it was observed that of the 12 patients who gave birth before the 37 weeks, 11 presented alterations in the cervix ultrasound. This simple and innocuous method is suggested as a complement to detect cervix alterations in the prevention of preterm delivery.
