A retrospective investigation was made among 15 patients who were diagnosed acute appendicitis at “Abel Santamaría” Teaching Hospital from January, 1999, to April, 2001, aimed at evaluating this affection in our environment. 23 191 births occurred in the province during this period, for an incidence of 1:1 546 births. Average age was 26.8 years old. Most of the patients were nulliparas. Abdominal pain appeared in all patients. The diagnosis predominated in the second trimester, with an average of 23.3 weeks. Complications were minimum. 2 pregnants had abortions and one had a preterm delivery. There were neither maternal nor perinatal deaths.
