A descriptive and retrospective study was conducted among all the pregnant women from the municipality of Manzanillo with a clinical picture of acute appendicitis during pregnancy that was confirmed by the anatomopathological study. These patients received medical attention at “Celia Sánchez Manduley” Teaching Hospital from January, 1991, to December, 2000. Aspects such as: age, time of pregnancy, typicity of the clinical picture, results of the white blood cell count, time of evolution until diagnosis, anatomopathological stage of the appendix and complications, were analyzed. The disease affected one per more than 1 500 births and it prevailed in the first two trimesters of pregnancy. The clinical picture appeared in a typical way. The white blood cell count was altered in most of the cases, the diagnosis was late and the biopsy showed an advanced stage of the disease. There were no complications and mortality was null.
