TORRIENTE HERNANDEZ, Beatríz; MARTINEZ CAMILO, Valentín y VILLAREAL, Aracelis. Interferon: Alternative treatment against the infection caused by human papilloma virus in the adolescent from June, 1997 to June, 2001. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2002, vol.28, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
The human papilloma virus (HPV) produces lesions in the squamous epithelium. There are several types related to premalignant and malignant cervix lesions. Different types of treatment have been used in the world at present to eliminate the HPV infection. Due to the high incidence of the virus in the adolescents we have decided to evaluate the efficiency of interferon as an alternative treatment at these ages. To this end, a prospective longitudinal study was conducted among 78 patients with histologically diagnosed HPV. 39 of them were treated with interferon (systemic), whereas a placebo was used in the other group (control). The risk factors and the reliability of the diagnostic tools used were evaluated in all of them, The percentage of patients who began their sexual relations before being 15 was elevated. Ectopia was the predominating benign uterine cervix lesion in HPV patients. The cytocolposcopic correlation with histology was satisfactory. The response to the treatment was efficient in the study group. According to the results, we consider that the therapeutics used in the HPV carrier adolescent was good.
