Resumen

MACIQUES RODRIGUEZ, Ivette  y  ALONSO CASTELLANOS, Magaly. Diagnosis and clinical symptoms of vaginal trichomoniasis. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2002, vol.28, n.2. ISSN 0138-600X.

Trichomas vaginalis is a microorganism causing vaginitis in women. The classical diagnosis of this protozoo is made by the direct observation of the vaginal smear on the optical microscope. This technique is economic but little sensitive. The smear culture is the accuracy technique, but it is expensive and requires of at least a week to know the result. In this paper, we proposed ourselves to compare the results of the diagnosis of trichomoniasis by a kit of reagents based on latex particles sensitized with immunoglobulins against T. vaginalis, the culture of the microorganism and the direct technique by microscopy. The results showed a higher sensitivity (98.7 %) and efficiency (99 %) of the fast latex technique in relation to the traditional technique by optic microscopy (61.9 and 94 %, respectively) and a similar specificity (99 and 99,8 %, respectively) in 1 229 patients analyzed with a minimum detection limit 104. The techniques has a great social value, since it may be used in the diagnosis at the primary health care level, allows to know the result immediately at the physician's office and to establish the specific treatment for the patient.
