Resumen

BALESTENA SANCHEZ, Jorge M.; SUAREZ BLANCO, Ciro; PILOTO MOREJON, Manuel  y  BATISTA CARVAJAL, Ridel. Correlation between the cytological, colposcopic and guided biopsy-based diagnosis and the histological diagnosis on conization. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2003, vol.29, n.1. ISSN 0138-600X.

With the aim of evaluating the possible correlation between cytological, colposcopic and guided biopsy-based diagnosis with the histological diagnosis on conization in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, a retrospective cross-sectional and analytical research study was conducted on 112 patients who underwent conization of the cervix from January 1998 to April 1999 in "Abel Santamaría" hospital, Pínar del Río province. The evaluated variables were: cytological, colposcopic and histological diagnosis both from guided biopsy and cone biopsy and their complications. Mean, standard deviation, percentage and Chi square test with a level of significance £ 0,05 were used for the statistical analysis. There was a significant relation between dysplasias as cytolological diagnosis and cancer on cone biopsy as well as the uterine cervix lesions detected by colposcopy and dysplasias and carcinomas on conization. Also, the relation between intraepithelial cervical neoplasia III and carcinoma in situ on guided biopsy and carcinoma on cone biopsy was significant. The rate of complications of conization was very low. It was concluded that conization of the uterine cervix is an effective surgical technique to diagnose and treat uterine cervix lesions.
