A retrospective and descriptive study of 410 adolescents that underwent induced abortion at "América Arias" Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital was conducted. All the adolescents that visited the pregnancy diagnosis office during 2002 were included in the study. The objective of this paper was to identify the factors related to induced abortions in this age group. The control sheet of the offices and the medical histories of the sample under study were analyzed. The main results were: a high percentage of adolescent patients with an early beginning of unprotected sexual relations, most of them used curettage as an election method to interrupt their pregnancies, they had neither stable union nor economic independence. It was concluded that induced abortion is being used as a contraceptive method in this high risk group.
