Abstract

Cervix cancer is still a health problem in the whole world and, specially, in the underdeveloped countries, where it causes a high mortality. A cross-sectional study of 95 patients with stage one cervix cancer that were operated on by Wertheim-Meigs's technique at "Fe del Valle Ramos" Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital , in Manzanillo, from 1986 to 2002, was conducted. The proposed objective was to evaluate the results of this technique. The survival attained was 96.8 % at 5 years or more, with a postoperative morbidity of 26.3 %. The infectious complications predominated in the studied group. The surgical procedure used in the therapeutic of stage I cervix cancer was considered as valid.
