An updated review on the antiphospholipid syndrome, from the history of antiphospholipid antibodies described by Wasserman in 1906, its pathogenesis and the behavior that should be adopted. It was stressed that such a syndrome is one of the autoimmune diseases that very often relates to pregnancy and is characterized by repeated fetal loss and plateletopenia, with a 10 % prevalence of abortion and other obstetric complications like delayed fetal growth, pre-eclampsia, prematurity, placental failure, fetal distress and maternal thromboembolic diseases (arterial or venous). Emphasis was made on the diagnosis of this syndrome based on clinical and lab criteria and on syndrome management during pregnancy, accordiang to the clinical characteristics of each group of patients.
