CASAGRANDI CASANOVA, Davide et al. Trends of some indicators related to caesarean section: Ramón Gonzalez CoroHospital, 1996-2005. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2007, vol.33, n.3. ISSN 0138-600X.
The index of caesarean sections has considerable increased in the last years. Thats why, the study of different factors related to this procedure is very important at present. In Ramón Gonzalez CoroHospital it was created a system for the automated register of caesarean sections in 1996. Some variables connected with the operation in 1996, 1999 and 2005 were presented in this paper. The caesarean section index rose (from 18.3 %, in 1996, to 29.2 %, in 2005). The most frequent indications in 1996 were cephalopelvic disproportion (13.1 %) and pelvic presentation (11.1 %), whereas in 2005 they were acute fetal suffering (15.1 %) and the associated medical affections (12.1 %). The clean-contaminated caesarean sections predominated in the three years (40 %, 35 %, 42 %; in 1996, 1999 and 2005, respectively). It was observed a considerable growth of the frequency of peridural anesthesia (16 %, 34 %, 92 %, in 1996, 1999 y 2005, respectively). There was a decrease in the frequency of all the postoperative complications (30 %, 26 %, 11 %, in 1996, 1999 y 2005, respectively). The transfusions of hemoderivatives increased (4.3 %, 4 %, 8.1 %, in 1996, 1999 y 2005, respectively). The application of similar programs was recommended to improve the collection of data related to caesarean section.
