Resumen

OBJECTIVES: to assess results obtained in hysterectomies performed in general surgery service of "Martin Chang Puga" University General Hospital, in Nuevitas Municipality during 2007, by means of abdominal and vaginal techniques. To characterize patients according to age groups, to define which were the more frequent operative diagnoses, to determine complications present in both groups, to relate use of antimicrobial with postoperative results, to analyze stage and the difference regards hospital costs of procedures. METHODS: authors performed a cross-sectional and descriptive study. Two groups were created including each 47 patients for both procedures. RESULTS: age prevalent in both groups was 36 and 45 years with a 38, 0% and 55, 2%, respectively. Main indication for hysterectomy was the uteri myoma for two routes. There were fewer postoperative complications in vaginal technique. Mean stage in vaginal route was short reporting a saving regard costs. CONCLUSIONS: disease associated with a great frequency noted in both groups was high blood pressure. In abdominal hysterectomy use of antimicrobials was greater and with a therapeutical aim, while that of vaginal one, was with prophylactic aims. Vaginal technique reported a decrease in hospital stay, contributing to a monetary savings for institution.
