Intrahospital infections (IHI) are at present time a significant health problem at world scale, not only for patients but for his family, the community and state. OBJECTIVES: To predict the nosocomial infections according to sepsis global tables, infections by service and the antibiotics consumption for the future three years, and to analyze the behavior of trend from these entities in Gynecology and Obstetrics Teaching Hospital of Guanabacoa municipality (1995-2005); to compare the behavior of the accumulative reported cases until March, 2006 with the prognosis established in different services, to expose the behavior of percentage distribution of microbiological positivity in the different services and the infections-causing germs. METHODS: A descriptive and retrospective study was conducted of nosocomial infections behavior in «Gynecology-Obstetrics Teaching Hospital in Guanabacoa municipality from 1995 to 2005. RESULTS: Trend curve shows a slow and gradual decrease of infections in Obstetrics service, as well as of hospital infections in Gynecology service. In Neonatology service there was a market decrease achieved by the systemic work in prevention and control performed in this service. CONCLUSIONS: It is expected a decrease in sepsis cases in all hospital services for the next three years and also a proper use of maps and reports from infections and pharmaco-therapeutical committees, as well as the increase in surveillance may help to decrease the sepsis cases in our institution and its associated costs.
