Abstract

GONZALEZ RODRIGUEZ, Juan F.; MOLINA GALVEZ, Nancy; BARTHELEMY ARTZE, Deisy  and  BOLIVAR MURILLO, María Elena. Morphological evaluation and recommendation of standards for the Cuban diver. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1997, vol.26, n.2, pp.98-103. ISSN 0138-6557.

Since 1993 an anthropometric study is performed at "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto"Higher Institute of Military Medicine, as a part of the annual medical examination for the control of the health of the diving personnel, although Cuban standard is not available yet for establishing the morphological parameters to evaluate these personnel. Using the examinations performed at the Center of Subacuatic and Aviation Medicine during 1993 and 1994 on these specialists, the study was conducted and ended with the implementation of the present recommendation of standards. Thirteen anthropometric measures were taken into account, and 7 variables of body composition and 3 variables of somatotype were obtained. All variables were processed in the MICROSTAD program and by a universal accepted statistical method it was possible to establish such standards for th Cuban diver. It was concluded that the Cuban diver is a young, healthy, mesoectomorphic 28.7-year old adult man with a height of 172.9 cm, a weight of 68.5 kg and having a percentage of fat of 13.74.
