The study of the relationship trauma-sepsis has a special importance for the physician who attends and takes care of the critically ill patient because the patient presenting with a traumatism and sepsis constitutes a paradigm in intensive care. The advances in the field of medical sciences and in the technology have allowed to understand better the biochemical and immunological mechanisms that ara clinically evidenced in different forms. The close trauma-systemic inflammatory response relationship was evidenced in the literature revised. An up-date of the immunological aspects of the systemic inflammatory response was performed, as well as of the risk factors in the traumatism and certain characteristics of the clinical septic shock.
