DALCOURT CESAR, Arístides N.; RAMIREZ DEL RIO, María Elena y MATOS RODRIGUEZ, Elena. Respiratory tests for the diagnosis of obstructive lung disease and lung hyperreactivity. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1998, vol.27, n.1, pp.29-33. ISSN 0138-6557.
A model study of the early detection of obstructive pulmonary disease by exertion spirometry was carried out in 50 smokers who underwent a medical examination as a health control at "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto". Higher Institute of Military Medicine. The study was conducted on 60 smokers working at "José Martí" cigarrette factory, Centro Habana, and on 100 hypertensive patients who attended the specialized multidisciplinary service of our institute. Functional respiratory tests were found to be pathologic in most of the patients studied, regarding smoking habit. In addition, a study of bronchial provocation with nebulizing distilled water was also performed in 47 subjects presenting with history of recurrent bronchial syndromes. In this group, a tendency of reduced spirographic values was observed after nebulization. The uselfulness of exertion spirometry was evidenced for the diagnosis of obstructive pneumopathy and for the detection of bronchial hypereactivity, as well as the usefulness of nebulization with distilled water for this purpose.
