Abstract
NODARSE HERNANDEZ, Rafael. Monitoring of in vitro bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents during a 5-year period. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1998, vol.27, n.1, pp.34-38. ISSN 0138-6557.
A monitoring of "in vitro" bacterial resistance was carried out at "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine during a 5-year period (1989-1993) with the objective of knowing whether there was a reduction and the possible causative effect on such reduction of the creation of the Pharmaco-Therapeutic Commitee which directs the policy regarding the use of antibiotics in the center. The behaviour of 6 221 bacterial strains isolated during the 5-year period against a number of 14 antibiotics belonging to the traditional antibiogram, was analyzed. These antibiotics were grouped for the study of 3 groups: Bectalactamic; aminoglycosides, and others. It was observed that bacterial resistance was reduced in the 3 groups which were analyzed together, and it only increased individually against tetracycline with no significant figures. It was considered that the cause of this reduction was the result of the scarcy availability of antibiotics in the country, fact that has resulted in a rest of some of the above mentioned antibiotics together with the fact that most of the physicians have a more rational use of the ones available.
