MORAN, Armando Felipe y SALOMON CARDONA, María T. Disfunción de los nervios craneales en pacientes con fractura de la base de cráneo. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2000, vol.29, n.1, pp.5-11. ISSN 0138-6557.
One hundred and fifty patients, who were admitted to Military Hospital "Dr. Carlos J. Finlay" from January 1994 to December, 1996 and diagnosed with skull base fracture, were prospectively studied to expand knowledge on their clinical behaviour. Of these patients, 121 were males and 32 % aged 15-29 years. 86 % of patients arrived at the emergency department with some altered level of conciousness. Otorrhagia and cephalea affected 76.6 % and 69.3 % of patients respectively. Fifty-three injured suffered some damage in cranial nerves (35.3 %) and the facial nerve was the most affected (13.3 %). In the first 24 hours, 30.5 % of these sequelae developed, which increased to 69.4 % during the first week.
