REYES HERNANDEZ, Damaris; DALCOURT CESAR, Arístides  y  IGLESIAS DUQUESNE, Magaly. Valoración de la función pulmonar en pacientes  con riesgo quirúrgico. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2000, vol.29, n.1, pp.30-35. ISSN 0138-6557.

We conducted a prospective study of the pulmonary function of all those patients who went to the multidisciplinary medical office of high surgical risk in «Dr. Luis Díaz Soto» Higher Institute of Military Medicine from march 1996 to march, 1997. Seventy-five subjects made up the working universe and were divided into two groups according to the existance or lack of a history of respiratory affection. Over 60 years-old group was the predominant, and the most common pathological individual history was cardiovascular and respiratory systems. 74.3 % of patients with pathological respiratory history had some level of ventilatory dysfunction with the obstructive pattern prevailing. The most sensitive spirometric variables were maximum respiratory ventilation, peak flow and maximum flow in small airways. We proposed to determined the general characteristics of patients with high surgical risk and find out the behaviour of pulmonary function, and therapeutic measures were taken before surgery to reduce postoperative complications.
