CEBALLOS MESA, Alfredo; BALMASEDA MANENT, Roberto; PUENTE RODRIGUEZ, Roberto  y  PEDROSO CANTO, Mario. Conversión de un fijador circular en un fijador externo híbrido. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2000, vol.29, n.2, pp.89-97. ISSN 0138-6557.

This paper presents the results of a hybrid fixator developed in the Medical and Surgical Research Center (CIMEQ in Spanish), which is based on a circular fixator following Ilizarov philosophy but manufactured with polypropylene material. The conversion into a hybrid fixator was possible by cutting the ring in the form of a hemiring and by using forks allowing the use of threaded nails at different planes and of thin tensioned wires. Forty-four patients with a number of complex affections were examined. Results were satisfactory. Consolidation was achieved in all cases, being deformity of the device's configuration and problems in wires and nails infrequent. Time of consolidation varied depending on the pathological picture that led to the intervention. However; it was similar to that corresponding to other similar fixators. These findings showed the usefulness of this fixator that is easy-to-apply and less expensive for the country.
