Abstract

. Two hundred and twenty-four patients seen at the "Dr Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine were studied to find out alcohol consumption and alcoholism risks. An epidemiological survey together with diagnostic indicator and CAGE questionnaires were applied. Data were processed and it was confirmed that 45% of the studied sample was included in 41-50 years age group; that 85.7% of men and 3.1% of females consumed alcohol. It was also observed that 76.8% of men and 2.0% of women drank because they liked it whereas 83.4% were social drinkers and 11.1% teetotalers. Gastritis represented the main health disorder in 62.5% of patients and 34.3% of drinkers presented work overload as a psychotraumatizing situation. 41.7% had no social- family difficulties.
