The surgery to rescue the critical polytraumatized patient’s life is defined and 2 fundamental aspects of its controversial management in main lesion areas are dealt with: rapid volume infusion versus emergency surgical approach and combined cranio-thoracic and abdominal injuries versus surgical priority. This paper is aimed at devising a basic strategy to stop hypoxia and exsanguination in the severely injured patient.
