Abstract

ACOSTA CABRERA, Erick B.; RODRIGUEZ PERON, José Miguel  and  ALFONSO ALFONSO, Lázaro E.. Laseracupuntura con helio-neón en el tratamiento de pacientes traumatizados. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2002, vol.31, n.1, pp.5-12. ISSN 0138-6557.

On knowing the immunological state of the traumatized patients according to the TRISS predicitive index, among whom a depression of immunity has been proved when the the survival probability is < 95 %, and the action of the soft or low potency laser with its immunomodulating effect at the cellular level, as well as its antiinflammatory and cicatrizing effects, a pilot prospective, descriptive and longitudinal clinical trial was carried out in 40 traumatized patients with a survival probability < 95 % that were admitted in "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine in a period of 8 months aimed at evaluating the usefulness of laser therapy by using acupuncture points of immunostimulating action at a daily session for 10 days. White blood cell and platelet counts were also made. The average survival probability was 89.7 %. l5 % of the injured had some type of septic complication and only 1 patient died, accounting for 2.5 %. On the tenth day of treatment higher values of white blood cells and platelets were obtained compared with the first day of treatment. It was concluded that the laser acupunture therapy with helium-neon with immunomodulating property is useful when it is opportunely used in traumatized patients with TRISS < 95 %, which allows to reduce the incidence of complications and deaths.
