Abstract

26 medical students from the Military Medical School and 50 doctors from "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine were surveyed with their previous consent. Variables such as age, sex, number of cigarettes (tobbaco) they smoke, years with this habit, causes to start smoking, changes after beginning the medical career, if they consider themselves as addicts, events that increase or decrease the intensity of the habit, places where they smoke, if they think to stop smoking, what they feel when they smoke or when they can’t do it for different causes, and if they consider smoking as a disease. The results were tabulated and analyzed by the authors of this paper. It was proved that 34 considered themselves as addicts, that most of them began to smoke to relax, and that only 36 of the total thought it was a disease.
