A literature review was made to find out several aspects of extremity injuries to determine their complexity and adequate therapeutic management. Several diagnostic criteria and options for the treatment of soft tissues, which is considered to be the determining factor in the initial and definite management of these injuries, are stated. Also, the specific methods of skeletal stabilization depending on the individual characteristics of fractures, concomitant lesions, experience and chemical judgement regarding these potentially devastating injuries, both in peace and war times, are presented.
