Resumen

SUAREZ REYES, Mariela; ARBESU LINARES, Armando; COTRINA PEDROSO, Armando  y  FERRER CARMONA, Leonides. Evaluación del tratamiento del trauma renal a partir de los conocimientos actuales. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2002, vol.31, n.3, pp.170-176. ISSN 0138-6557.

A retrospective study was carried out to evaluate the treatment of renal trauma in "Dr Luis Díaz Soto" Central Military Hospital. The medical histories of 110 patients were checked. They had been admitted to the Multiple Trauma Service from January, 1987 to December, 1999, diagnosed with renal trauma which were classified according to the war surgery criteria into grade I, II and III and to the treatment given to the patient. Males prevailed over females (4:1 ratio), the most affected aged group was 30-40 years. The mechanism of trauma was fundamentally related to road accidents followed by free falls. Closed abdominal traumas prevailed over blunt traumas; Grade I lesions occurred more frequently (68%), which were conservatively treated. It was concluded that grade I renal traumas were managed with conservative treatment according to the worldwide standards whereas grade II injuries were surgically treated in the main in a less conservative way. The latter treatment does not match with war surgery classification since 40% of lesions underwent complete nephrectomy. Grade III lesions were treated with complete nephrectomy in line with the criteria of some authors.
