Resumen
INFANTE VELAZQUEZ, Mirtha et al. Caracterización clínica de un brote de hepatitis aguda por virus A en una institución cerrada. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2002, vol.31, n.4. ISSN 0138-6557.
Acute viral hepatitis is an important cause of morbidity among the personnel working or staying in closed facilities. In order to identify the clinical serological behavior of pro-hepatitis A virus during an epidemic outbreak, it was conducted a descriptive study including the longitudinal follow-up of 123 patients with icterus and elevation of transaminases as diagnosed criteria of the affection. Those cases with subclinical or unapparent disease (non-icteric) were not taken into consideration. Each patient underwent a monthly determination of aminotranferases and bilirubin until its normalization and a survey including demographic variables and clinical symptoms and signs was done. 97.5 % of the cases were males with an average age of 19.8 years old (DE = 2.35 years old). The prevailing symptoms were asthenia (95.9 %) in the prodromic period and icterus (100 %) in the icteric phase. 89.4 % developed a classical acute icteric hepatitis, 8.9 % the relapsing or diphase and 1.6 % the cholestatic form. In the latter, the bilirubin figures were higher (p = 0.0028). The cholestatic variant extended to 31.4 weeks and the diphasic (p = 0.001) to 29.96 weeks. It was concluded that the disease has a benign evolution that may be easily managed by the basic assistance and that there are clinical forms prolonguing the time of affectation of the physical capacities of the patient.
