Abstract

MONTERO GONZALEZ, Teresita et al. Modelo experimental de ratón quemado en investigaciones biomédicas. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2003, vol.32, n.2. ISSN 0138-6557.

The disease caused by burns allow to follow research lines related to the syndrome of generalized systemic inflammation and to the syndrome of multiple organ dysfunction. In order to develop an experimental burn model that may be used in biomedical research, Balb/c female mice of 20±2g were used, a metal mesh with an open-work of 0.5 cm was made for the boxes, and ketamine (100 mg/kg) was administered 5 days before the burn. The total dry burn was attained by using 2 devices adapted to be coupled with a welding station with automatic temperature control to have between 11 and 22 % of burned body surface (paravertebral). Different burn times were applied. The evolution of the animals was observed and the t test was used to compare the percentage values among the groups.11 % of the inferior paravertebral BBS was the most adequate. It was also demonstrated that the desired mortality or survival may be obtained by varying the time. The metal suspension mesh proved to be efficient for the evolution of the depilation, the burn and the observation of the animal. The utilization of the welding equipment with digital control allows to mantain a fixed temperature during the whole experiment and it has multiple purposes, such as to conduct studies on burn prognoses. The dry burn model serves as a biological model to study the processs connected with the disease due to burns.
