Abstract

Pain is a complex phenomen on determined by multiple causes. It results from the interaction of psychological, physiological and sociocultural factors. It is studied by different disciplines, such as Psychophysiology. The patient's personality may affect the painful sensation, that is, what is felt by the subject or his expression of pain (what he comunicates). The anterior cingulate cortex takes part in the process of information of the stimuli related to unpleasant or disagreeable sensations. Pain in its physical and psychical manifestations accompanies inevitably the human being during his life linked to historical processes, such as wars, or to environmental phenomena, physiological and pathological processes. This paper intends to go deep into the mechanisms producing pain and the factorts influencing on the organism. There are interindividual physiological and psychological differences that may be evaluated a priori that allow to prognosticate the behavior of combatants in the face of stress and pain.
