The antecedents of the Biological Weapons Convention were briefly examined and the current perspectives of the international control of this type of mass destruction weapons were also evaluated. The aim of this paper is to provide our readers the state of the art in this regard and to show the South's approaches. The progress and outcome of the Protocol negotiations that was being arranged to strengthen the Convention was analysed, and it was also shown the US position that led to block the states parties Ad Hoc Group negotiation in their last stage, and the failure of the Fifth Review Conference, which is a unique happening in the history of these Conferences. An immediate solution to the multilateral and non discriminatory control of the Convention is not perceived.
