Abstract
FUENTES RODRIGUEZ, Nelson; DE LA PAZ RIVERO, Mario; PRINCE LOPEZ, José A. and SALAS RUBIO, Jose H.. Ependimoma intradural extramedular primario. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2004, vol.33, n.1. ISSN 0138-6557.
The medullary ependymomas generally have an intradural intramedullary localization and 90 % of them are originated at the filum terminale, medullary cone and cauda equina. The case of a 54-year-old female patient who underwent myelography for presenting radicular pain, hypoesthesia on saddle and weakness of the right lower extremity is reported. An occupying injury was observed in the region of the cauda equina. Laminectomy was performed and it was exposed a well defined encapsulated tumor that did not compromise root, filum, or medullary cone. The injury was resected by using microsurgical techniques. The pathological diagnosis reported was ependymoma. According to the reviewed literature, only 11 cases of primary ependymomas of extramedullary intradural localization have been published.
