Resumen

MENENDEZ LOPEZ, José R. et al. Síndromes paralelos: su pertinencia actual en la preparación del oficial médico para las contingencias de tiempo de guerra. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2004, vol.33, n.2. ISSN 0138-6557.

The concept and academic scope of what the authors calls parallel syndrome, which is defined as a teaching-methodological resource extensively diseminated in education and in medical-military research work are set forth. The latter are two functions that the medical officers of the Cuban Armed Forces have been developing for several years as part of their competency and performance. Parallel syndrome can be defined as a clinical situation at peaceful times that reproduces or is very similar to, with an acceptable level of reproducibility, clinical pictures only seen on the war scenario where conventional warfare or offensive artifacts that cause multiple casualties. The level of similarity (never overlapping) of the clinical circumstance often seen at war times lays the foundations for recognizing the real circumstances in which real clinical pictures found in war scenarios occur. The paper also presented the personal experience of the author and the necessary didactic requirements for the use of this method in the special military preparation of medical officers and the medical reserves in the country.

Palabras clave : medical teaching; military; competency; performance.
