Resumen

ALVAREZ FIALLO, Roger. Usefulness of intraoperative monitoring with somatosensorial evoked potentials of the vertebral column. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2004, vol.33, n.3. ISSN 0138-6557.

In recent years, different techniques of intraoperative monitoring have been developed in the vertebral column surgery directed to preserve the integrity of the nervous system during it and to determine a better postsurgical prognosis. In this study, it is described the implementation of the iontraoperative monitoring with somatosensorial evoked potentials (SSEP) by the stimulation of the posterior tibial nerve. The SSEP were highly sensitive to the changes at the anesthetic levels, arterial pressure and in the neurological function of the 110 studied patietns. It was possible to reduce the index of postsurgical neurological injuries that range between 6 and 17 % according to the reports of world literature, to 0.90 % in these cases.

Palabras clave : intraoperative monitoring; vertebral column surgery; somatosensorial evoked potentials (SSEP); nervous system; posterior tibial nerve.
