Abstract

A bibliographic review was made aimed at making known in a more updated way, the harmful repercussion of alcohol ingestion for health, family and society. It is widely spread all over the world and a disease, alcoholism, is derived from it. Its consequences have a biological, psychological and social incidence and it is the most relevant toxicomany in the world due to its prevalence and impact. Nowadays, it has been proposed the use of the term alcohol dependance syndrome for alcoholism. Alcoholism, produces not only numeorus health problems, but social problems, too. The danger of alcoholism is present in all persons likewise. Adolescence is considered a risk factor, where the alcohol ingestion conducts may be favored due to the reaffirmation of independence, virility, the freedom in the decision-making process, the belief of certain myths, or the imitation of adults. Stress and the genetic and environmental factors influence significantly on alcoholism, in general, and on the alcoholic relapse.
