Abstract

SOTOLONGO GARCIA, Yenia et al. Trihexyphenidyl: a drug with difficulties in its prescription, poorly used and little known. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2004, vol.33, n.4. ISSN 0138-6557.

A wide review of what is described in literature about trihexyphenidyl, an anticholinergic drug basically used in psychiatrics and neurological diseases, was made aimed at contributing from the educative point of view to the information of the health personnel on the pharmacological potentialities of this drug concerning its consumption. The risk-benefit binomy was assessed, making emphasis on the details of its indication, dosage, possible alternatives to substitute this drug, as well as implications of its risk consumption and its adictive power. Recommendations were made to perform good medical practices and to assess their medical and legal aspects. Finally, it was stressed the role of the health personnel in the spreading of this topic and its responsibility in the attainment of healthy life styles and better quality of life of our population
