Abstract

SAMADA SUAREZ, Marcia; HERNANDEZ PERERA, Julio César; GONZALEZ RAPADO, Leonel  and  RAMOS ROBAINA, Leslie. Specific aspects related to liver transplantion in the hepatopathies caused by virus C. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.2. ISSN 0138-6557.

A bibliographic updated review was made on the current state of the liver transplantion in patients with hepatitis C and, in particular, on the routes of infection of the graft, the diagnosis, evolution, prognostic factors and treatment. The cirrhosis due to virus C is the main cause of transplantation in the world. So far, viral infection and hepatitis are recurrent in most of the patients and the evolution is variable. Of the prognostic factors, the most important in the evolution of the disease is the immunosupression degree. Today, there is no an effective prophylactic treatment and the present treatment with interferon and ribavirin has a limited efficiency. At the Center for Medical and Surgical Research, it is the main reason for performing transplantation and of 11 patients with more that one year of survival, 54 % have presented recurrent hepatitis proved by histology and 3 of them with a rapid evolution to cirrhosis.

Keywords : Liver transplantion; recurrent hepatitis C.
