Abstract

A cross-sectional and prospective study, in which nutritional markers in intensive psychophysical situation were taken into account, was carried out. The sample included 31 exposed males. The research was divided in two stages: basal and experimental. The individuals were assessed by means of anthropometric measurements, and the nutritional contribution of the diet offered was analysed. It was found that the total energy composition of the serving offered in the "before stage" was 3 902.87, and 3 761.53 during intensive psychophysical activity. A trend towards reduction was observed. There was a decreased intake of proteins (112.86 - 95.3 g ) and fats (110.92 - 73.67 g), causing a significant reduction in body weight in both stages. Similar behaviors were showed by body mass index (BMI), and the active body mass (ABM). We also observed a higher contribution of carotenes and vitamin C in the "during stage" compared with the basal one; as well as a significant decrease in dietetic administration of vitamin A (1 392.36 - 939.86 mg). During the practice of intensive physical exercises, energy contribution according to diet was quantitavely lower to energy output, factor that may have repercussion on the psychophysical ability of the exposed subjects. The decrease in the dietetic contribution of essential nutrients in quantity and quality led to a decrease of BMI and ABM, as well as of body weight. The supply of antioxidants in the diet the was not enough to counteract the process of lipid peroxidation.
