Abstract

VALLE LARA, Yury  and  RODRIGUEZ TAPANES, Vivian. Evaluation of one-plane extramucous intestinal suture in two hemisurget. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2009, vol.38, n.1. ISSN 0138-6557.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the main complications and their relations with the suture technique as well as to evaluate their influence on the surgical time and the length of stay at hospital in the studied patients. METHODS: From March 2004 to February 2007, a prospective, observational-analytical, controlled, randomized and simple-blind study was conducted in "Dr Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine to evaluate the surgical technology in 126 patients aged over 15 years ob both sexes, who had undergone intestinal suture. The two-plane intestinal suture was used in 50 patients and two hemisurget extramucous method was used in the remaining 76 patients. RESULTS: The most common complications in both groups were surgical site infection, stercoraceous fistulae and partial dehiscence of suture. Using the two-hemisurget one-plane extramucuous method, only 13 patients suffered some type of complication; in this group, 64 patients (84.2 %) were operated on in less than 2 hours and 80.3 % stayed at hospital for less than 7 days. CONCLUSIONS: Two-hemisurget one-plane extramucuous intestinal suture showed complications similar to those of the two-plane method but the incidence was lower in addition to a sizeable reduction of surgical time and stay at hospital of patients.
