Introduction: symptomatic hypotension is the more frequent acute complications in hemodialysis patients. Objective: to analyze the repercussion of dialysis bath temperature on the hemodynamic and symptomatic stability in current hemodialysis and also to determine the impact of the method applied in the nursing intervention time required due to a hypotension and in the decrease of resources consumption necessary for its treatment. Methods: a longitudinal and analytic study was conducted in 16 patients seen in the Hemodialysis Unit of the «Augusto Cesar Sandino» Teaching Hospital from October to December, 2009, which was conducted in three phases: in the first one the patients were dialyzable with a habitual bath temperature (37 ºC), in the second one temperature was dropped to 35.5 ºC and in the third it was allowed to choice its favourite. Results: with dropping temperature to 35.5 ºC, it was possible to reduce the number of sessions complicated with symptomatic hypotension (3.50 ± 1.31 versus 1.06 ± 0.85; p< 0.01). Patients preferring the low bath temperature had poor basal parameters; hypotension episodes of 1.5 ± 1.9 versus 0.9 ± 1.4 episodes/week, p< 0.05; symptomatology rate in hemodialysis was of 1 ± 1 versus 0.2 ± 0.4, (p 0.01). Conclusions: bath temperature remains influencing in a relevant way on the tolerance to hemodialysis since its reduction decrease symptomatology during and after session, as well as the intervention nursing times and its associated expenses.
