RODRIGUEZ IGLESIAS, Guillermo; LEON CID, Iraisa; SEGURA FERNANDEZ, Anadys  y  ATIENZA BARZAGA, Alba Marina. Vaginal delivery in patients underwent a prior cesarean operation. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2011, vol.40, n.3-4, pp.218-226. ISSN 0138-6557.

Introduction: from 1916 it says that "once cesarean section, always cesarean section" mainly due to the corporeal technique leading to a high risk of uterine rupture and a high mortality rate. With the segmental incision affecting less muscular fibers and a better healing, the above mentioned rupture decreased in patients with a prior cesarean section underwent labor. Objective: to determine the maternal and perinatal results in women underwent a prior cesarean section. Methods: a cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted in 129 patients with a history of cesarean section starting the labor from January,1 to December, 2008. They were care for by vaginal delivery if the prescription of cesarean section was not remains. Authors analyzed the cesarean section causes in those pregnants where the transpelvic delivery failed, studying the inter-genesis period and the mother and fetus complications. Frequency tables were designed with absolute values and percentages according to the different study variables, as well as the two-entry tables. Results: it was noted that the 72.9 % of patients had a transpelvic delivery and remainder underwent cesarean section, whose major causes were the prolonged labor, cephalopelvic disproportions and an imminent uterine rupture, both with a inter-genesis period less than 24 months. The altered fetal wellbeing was present in the 31.4 % of patients. Conclusions: the post-cesarean section delivery is recommendable in select patients if it is taking into account the risks and complications related to this technique.

Palabras clave : post-cesarean section; prior cesarean section.
