ABREU UGARTE, Jorge Eduardo  e  CRUZ GARCIA, Maria Antonia. Connotation of Anatomy for Two Notorious Personalities: Cajal and Valdés-Domínguez. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2016, vol.45, n.2. ISSN 0138-6557.

Cajal and Valdés-Domínguez lived in a time of political conflicts in Spain and independent struggles in Cuba. Both were students of Medicine at the University of Zaragoza. Cajal completed his full studies until graduating in this educational institution. For Valdés-Domínguez, it was one of the four universities he went through in his training as a doctor. Anatomy was a subject that had particular significance for each one. It was Cajal's favorite when he was a student and it occupied part of his life as professor. For Valdés-Domínguez, Anatomy linked him with the execution of the eight medical students, a momentous event in the history of Cuba for which he was imprisoned and deported to Spain. In his professional life, Cajal dedicated himself to science and teaching. Meanwhile, Valdes-Dominguez planned to vindicate the innocence of his classmates. The present paper is a bibliographic revision for a comparative analysis of biographical data, highlighting the historic social context in the life of both doctors, as well as the parallelism of virtues that makes them examples for the present-day and future generations of health-care professionals.
