Introduction:
The mortality is one of the necessary indicators for the analysis of the sanitary state of a community.
Objective:
Identify the relationship of the origin and hospital stay as an indicator linked to mortality at the level of secondary care.
Methods:
Was carried out an observational, descriptive study, cross sectional that included 2255 deceases with autopsy during the period from 1986 to 2015. The information was obtained through the Automated System of Registration and Control in Pathological Anatomy.
Results:
74.42% of the deaths occurred in the area of critically ill patients and 40.13% of the cases died with no more than 48 hours of stay.
Conclusions:
Most of the deaths happened in the area of attention to the critically ill patients with not more than 48 hours of stay, existing a narrow bond between origin and hospital stay as index of mortality.
