Abstract

TRIANA CORDOVI, Juan. Updating the Cuban Economic Model: a Perspective as from the Theory of Development. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2016, vol.156, n.1, pp.90-107. ISSN ISSN.

The present article is aimed at illustrating the transformation's process dynamics in Cuba, especially since 2007, in light of the economic development theory. Moreover, the document suggests a temporary line along this long modernizing process of the country's economy, trying to locate the most relevant moments when structuring this new national economy performance model. A special emphasis is placed on the quantum leap that brought about the launching of a transformations program (the economic and social guidelines), and their impact on leading such difficult transformation program. Finally, several ideas as to the transformation pace and the reasons that might be influencing its speed are put forward, as well as some ideas on the process future in terms of important events that may take place in the year 2016.

Keywords : economic development; cuban economy; economic transformation.
