Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Henry Colina. Some Notes about Retirement Pension Systems of Social Security and the Experience of its Reform in Latin America. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2018, vol.160, n.2, e24. ISSN ISSN.

Different conceptions about social security, as well as the practical experiences in the provision of these social services, are responsible of the evolution of what has been historically organized as a system of pensions. In Latin American region such configuration process has been experienced differently. Thus, the system has moved from a pioneering privatization from 1980 to 1990, up to the recent reforms that involve international solidarity components in some cases, and erode workers achievements in others. The constant informality of work, problems of territorial and gender inequalities, heterogeneous results of coverage, and population ageing, are some of the challenges which the Latin America countries are facing yet in the functioning of their pensions systems. Lessons are taken from the analysis of these challenges for the future of the states policies regarding the provision of the services associated to social security.

Keywords : Latin America; managers of pensions funds; social security; system of pensions.
